How do you begin an article to tribute a fallen fan? How can you say goodbye to someone you never said hello to? In the music scene, fans are numerous. Journalists, photographers, members of the band, all regular people looking to come to have a good time and celebrate the situations that arise to bring on such an occasion.

We gathered together for such a night, to celebrate the release of Rise Record’s own Miss May I and their new album “Rise of the Lion” with For The Fallen Dreams as part of the tour package. NYC locals The Things They Carried and Polarity opened up the festivities. Posted below are photos of the crowd and calamity that occurred during the Miss May I show. With an ending so surprising as the sound was cut off, to the resulting aftermath as Levi Benton rounded up legions of fans outside to take pictures and autographs, it almost seemed to be redemption for a show that was cut short. However, it wouldn’t be the only thing cut short.

Alberto Scott, a 21 year old fan, lost his life at the show I was suppose to cover this review on. I didn’t know Alberto personally. In this instance, he is still a member of a community that has to now grieve and heal in a process where a soul such as this, is irreplaceable. I have been a photographer for four years, and a journalist for a year now. I have seen people leave in the blink of an eye. Ones I knew close to the heart, and others who were kept close to the heart who I was not privileged to know. I have never experienced an emotion such as this before.

Never the less, the people who make up the community I cherish and love so much are hurting right now. I mourn with them because I am choosing to be the representative to a young man who embodied our positivity and passion for the bands and music that we love. Those who help us through our darkest times, the indirect actions of individuals who assist us in persevering. This is the first time I have to write something like this. being an attendee of this night, It will not be forgotten. There is a voice to those in music far and wide, my job as a journalist is to make sure those voices are heard. I wholeheartedly am assured however, that the positivity and radiance of his life bestowed unto those who felt his presence, will never be forgotten as well.

Rest In Peace Alberto Scott…

“Seriously such a f**king good friend. Alberto was one of the few friends I knew that only sent me positive vibes. I would always put him on, local bands and signed bands. Berto always had a open mind giving ears to new music. I still can’t believe that he is gone. I will always be thinking if you, you were a homie and a brother that will always remain in my heart. Mosh hard in heaven my brother.”

“We all know them knuckle heads that are always flying off with joy at a show. The kids who seem to feel like he’s top of the world, Well Alberto was that person. He was the person you will see smile so much and enjoy himself. You ever seen a happy 6ft tall kid with so much life inside him? That was him. He was always pleasant to talk too. I mean, his smile was bright with this idea that no matter what happens in life you got a reason to smile. He was an outstanding kids with much love to give for beside him being a monster in the pit that will take your head away, lol. But in all, he was the last person I will expect to be gone. Someone with so much life, a person who shined well with others and just enjoys the things around him is gone but never forgotten. May you enjoy heaven; we will meet you later on and enjoy the view.”

“I feel I should tell you the little I knew about Alberto from the times we’ve spoken. For one, he had the greatest and biggest smile that immediately caught your attention and made you feel happy. He was so kindhearted and such a good guy, so happy and open minded. Whenever I saw him, he never looked stressed or worried. All he cared about was the music. And as he said to me once, he took music very seriously and it was his 24/7 high.”

“The first time I met Alberto was around Veil of Maya in 2013. He was doing his thing and my first impression was “man, I do not want to get in there with that guy. He’s like the terminator Kevin Hart.” Then I gave him a pat while I went and did my thing. We talked for a bit and after that, I knew He was one great mosher and a very cool f**king guy from start to finish and I’m gonna miss those kicks he does when he throw down. The scar on my lip from his kick during The Word Alive’s set at Memphis May Fire was an honor. R.I.P Alberto, You were a good friend. Stay moshing in heaven man.”

“He was ALWAYS happy, he had such a will to live. Even in his shittiest moods he would make sure the next person had a smile before he had one himself. He was just very lovable and a real friend”

“Dagoberto Tito Ramos was one of the most amazing men you would’ve met. Not only was he my boyfriend but he was my best friend. I’m writing this while in tears because this is the first time in a long one that he didn’t pick me up when I fell and im truly falling hard. Bert was a very determined man. All he ever wanted was to be famous to help people like him with his lyrics. No matter what he was going through he always had that smile that was so contagious. Its bittersweet how we went out to Miss May I his number band. All I can do is at least be thankful, to have been given these years with Bert, my backbone. I love you babe, teach the angels how to mosh, OK?”
